What this report does
Shows the current count of Difficult to Monitor (DTM) components broken down by unit and component type. For each unit and type, the report shows the total component count, how many are flagged DTM, the DTM percentage, and the maximum number of DTM components allowed while staying below the 3% threshold.
This is a current-state report — it reflects the component population and DTM flags as of the time it is run. There are no date parameters. This report is available directly on the Reports tab.
When to use it
- Identifying units or component types that are approaching or exceeding the 3% DTM limit.
- Confirming how many DTM components are allowed before the threshold is breached.
- Reviewing DTM coverage across units under a specific regulation or set of regulations.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Required | How it filters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unit Type | Whether to filter by Process Unit or Location Unit | Yes | Determines which unit lists populates |
| Units | One or more units to include | Yes | One section per selected unit |
| Comp Types | One or more component types to include | Yes | Only the selected component types appear |
| Regulations | One or more regulations to filter by | Yes | Only components mapped to the selected regulation(s) are counted |
| Physical State | One or more physical states to include | Yes | Only components with the selected physical state(s) are counted |
No date parameter. This report reflects the current state of the component population at the time it is run.
Columns

| Unit | The unit name | Text |
| Type | Component type (level 1) | Text; e.g., "Valve", "Connector", "Pump" |
| Component Count | Total number of components of this type in the unit, matching the selected filters | Integer |
| DTM Count | Number of components flagged as DTM (excluding fDTM) | Integer; see note below about fDTM exclusion |
| DTM % | DTM components as a percentage of the total component count | Decimal; DTM Count ÷ Component Count × 100 |

What's included and excluded
Included:
- Only components mapped to the selected regulation(s).
- Only components of the selected type(s).
- Only components in the selected unit(s).
- Only components with the selected physical state(s).
- All active components as of the current date.
Excluded:
- Components not mapped to any of the selected regulations.
- Components with the DTM property set to Yes AND the "Cancel DTM Frequency" property also set to Yes — these display as "fDTM" elsewhere in Chateau and are excluded from the DTM Count (their DTM property is set but the frequency override has been cancelled).
- Rejected components.
How key values are calculated
DTM Count
Components with the DTM (Difficult to Monitor) property set to Yes, excluding those where the Cancel DTM Frequency override is also active. The exclusion means that the count only captures components where DTM status is genuinely affecting the monitoring schedule.
DTM %
DTM % = DTM Count ÷ Component Count × 100
Allowed
The number of DTM components that can exist in this unit and type combination while staying at or below the 3% regulatory ceiling:
Allowed = Component Count × 0.03
When DTM Count exceeds Allowed, the unit has more DTM components than permitted under the 3% threshold. This column is a decimal — the actual threshold is 3% of total components, which may not be a whole number.
Tips and common questions
- "DTM % is higher than 3% for a row — what does that mean?" The unit has exceeded the allowed DTM percentage for that component type. The Allowed column shows the maximum number permitted; DTM Count exceeds it.
- "Some components I know are DTM are not counted." Components where the Cancel DTM Frequency property is also set to Yes are excluded from the DTM Count — they appear as "fDTM" in the tag view and Periodic Inspection Summary but are not counted here.
- "The Component Count is much lower than I expected." The count is filtered by regulation and physical state. If you are seeing a low count, verify that you selected all relevant regulations and physical states. Components that are not mapped to any of the selected regulations will not appear.
- "Why does a row show 0 Component Count?" The unit and component type combination exists in the system but no components match all the selected filters (regulation + physical state) at the current time.
- "What is the difference between DTM and fDTM, and why is fDTM excluded from the DTM Count?" fDTM refers to components where the DTM property is set to Yes but the Cancel DTM Frequency override is also active. These components are not receiving the annual DTM monitoring frequency — they are being inspected on their standard schedule. Because they are not affecting the monitoring program in the way a full DTM component does, they are excluded from the DTM Count and the 3% threshold calculation. fDTM components appear in other reports (such as Component Count by Unit and the Periodic Inspection Summary) where they are identified separately.
Sample output
Report run for Example Facility, Unit Type: Location Unit, Units: Unit Alky, Comp Types: All, Regulations: All, Physical States: All.
What the rows illustrate:
Agitator — DTM Count exceeds Allowed: 3 DTM components out of 21 (14.29%), far above the Allowed value of 0 (21 × 0.03 = 0.63, which rounds to display as 0). This is the only component type in the unit where the DTM threshold is breached.
Connector — large population, zero DTM: 1157 connectors with no DTM components flagged. Allowed = 34 (1157 × 0.03 = 34.71), providing substantial headroom before the threshold would be reached.
Valve — 1 DTM within threshold: 1 DTM component out of 201 (0.50%); Allowed = 6 (201 × 0.03 = 6.03), so the single DTM valve is well within the permitted count.
Instrument System — zero Component Count: The row appears with a Component Count of 0, confirming that no active Instrument System components in the Alky unit are mapped to any of the selected regulations. The row is still rendered because the component type exists in the unit.
All other types — zero DTM: Compressor, Cooling Tower, Cooling Tower Sample Point, Drain, Exchanger, Flare, OGI Spot, PRV, and Pump all show DTM Count = 0 and DTM % = 0.00%, indicating none of the active components of those types carry the DTM flag under the selected regulations.
Regulation scope — wide multi-regulation run: The report header lists a large number of regulations including all active regulations at the facility. Running across all regulations means the Component Count for each type reflects the full active population in the unit, not just components under a single regulation.
