What this report does
Shows the current active component population for each selected unit, broken down by component type, subtype, M21 frequency, AVO frequency, and boolean property flags (DTM, fDTM, UTM, CVS, NDE). Each row represents a unique combination of these attributes within a unit, with a count of how many components match that combination.
The component population is reported as of the selected End Date. Use this report to get a snapshot of your unit's component composition at a point in time. This report is available directly on the Reports tab.
When to use it
- Reviewing the active component breakdown for a unit or set of units at a specific date.
- Confirming how many components have DTM, UTM, CVS, or NDE flags set.
- Getting component counts by type and frequency combination without a regulation filter.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Required | How it filters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unit Type | Whether to filter by Process Unit or Location Unit | Yes | Determine which unit list populates |
| Units | One or more units to include | Yes | Only components in the selected units appear |
| Start Date | Beginning of the date window | Yes | Present for consistency; the report reflects the state at the End Date |
| End Date | The effective date for the component snapshot | Yes | Component profiles, frequencies, and flags are evaluated as of this date |
No Regulation parameter. This report shows all active components in the selected units regardless of regulation assignment. For a regulation-specific view, use Component Count by Regulation.
Columns
| Column | What it shows | Format / Notes |
|---|---|---|
| LUnit | The unit name | Text; each unit section groups its rows |
| Type | Component type (level 1) | Text; e.g., "Valve", "Connector", "Agitator" |
| SubType | Component type (level 2) | Text; shows "(Multiple)" when the grouping spans more than one subtype |
| M21Freq | M21 inspection frequency code | Text; e.g., "M", "Q", "A", "MMQ (Monthly/Monthly/Quarterly — initial monitoring program)", "EX"; blank if none assigned |
| AVOFreq | AVO inspection frequency code | Text; blank if none assigned |
| DTM | Whether the components in this row are flagged Difficult to Monitor | YES or NO |
| f DTM | Whether the DTM frequency override has been cancelled | YES or NO; "f DTM" means DTM = Yes but the frequency adjustment is cancelled |
| UTM | Whether the components in this row are flagged Unsafe to Monitor | YES or NO |
| CVS | Whether the components in this row are flagged Closed Vent System | YES or NO |
| NDE | Whether the components in this row are flagged No Detectable Emissions | YES or NO |
| Tag Count | Number of components matching the row's attribute combination | Integer |
A grand total row appears at the bottom showing the total component count across all units.
What's included and excluded
Included:
- Active (non-deactivated) components in the selected units as of the End Date.
Excluded:
- Deactivated components.
- Rejected components.
- Components in units not selected.
How key values are calculated
Rows and grouping
Each row represents a unique combination of Unit + Type + M21Freq + AVOFreq + DTM + fDTM + UTM + CVS + NDE. When components within a type share more than one subtype, the SubType column shows "(Multiple)."
End Date snapshot
All attribute lookups — profile (active/deactivated), frequencies, and boolean flags — use the End Date. A component that was active on the End Date appears; one that was deactivated before the End Date does not.
f DTM
A component shows "f DTM = YES" when the DTM property is set to Yes AND the Cancel DTM Frequency override is also active. This means the component is marked as Difficult to Monitor but its normal monitoring schedule has not been adjusted — the DTM property does not affect its frequency for this component.
Tips and common questions
- "The report shows no regulation filter — how is it different from Component Count by Regulation?" This report includes all active components regardless of regulation assignment. Component Count by Regulation filters to only those components mapped to a selected regulation. Use this report for a full unit census; use the other when you need regulation-specific counts.
- "SubType shows '(Multiple)' — why?" The row spans more than one subtype (for example, both Gate and Ball valves with the same frequency and property combination). To see subtypes individually, filter or group in Excel after export.
- "A component I know is active is missing." Confirm the component is not deactivated as of the End Date and that its unit is selected. Also verify the component is not marked as Rejected.
- "Tag Count is much lower than expected." The count is segmented by every attribute combination. Many rows may contribute to the total for a given type — add up all rows with the same Type to get the full count.
- "The component appears under a different unit than I expected for a historical End Date." Unit assignment in this report is based on the component's current unit, not its unit as of the selected End Date. If a component was moved to a different unit after the End Date you selected, it will appear under its current unit rather than the unit it was in on the End Date. This only affects components that have changed unit assignments since the End Date.
Sample output
Report run for Example Facility, Unit Type: Location Unit, Units: Crude, StartDate: 7/1/2024, EndDate: 8/2/2024.
What the rows illustrate:
CL-S-H (Multiple, EX, AVOFreq = A, CVS = YES): The largest row in the unit at 859 components. CLVS-H is a component type with both an M21 frequency (EX) and an AVO frequency (A) assigned — the only row in this sample with AVOFreq populated. CVS = YES applies to all 859 components in this row, making it the largest CVS-flagged group in the unit.
Connector (Threaded, EX): A single-subtype connector row, meaning all 9 Exempt connectors in this unit share the Threaded subtype. This contrasts with the PRV (Multiple) row below, where differing subtypes collapse into "(Multiple)."
PUMP (M): 10 pumps with Monthly M21 frequency and no AVOFreq; no special flags set.
PRV — two separate rows: The PRV type appears twice — once as Exempt with CVS = YES (6 components) and once as Quarterly with no CVS flag (7 components). The difference in both M21Freq and CVS value produces two distinct rows, illustrating how a single component type can split across multiple rows when attribute combinations differ.
VALVE (Multiple, MMQ): 512 valves in the MMQ monitoring program; SubType = "(Multiple)" indicating more than one valve subtype is present within this frequency and flag combination. This is the largest non-CLVS-H row in the unit.
Total: 1403: The sum across all six rows. Because this report has no regulation filter, the 1403 count reflects every active component in the Crude unit as of 8/2/2024 regardless of regulation assignment.
Output format
