Recording an AWP Survey (Chateau Mobile)

This article covers the field workflow for an Alternate Work Practice survey in Chateau Mobile: starting a session, recording milestones as you walk the route, and letting Chateau create the path inspections in between.

Before you start, make sure AWP is configured — see Setting Up AWP — and that you have recorded your OGI sensitivity check for the day (see OGI Sensitivity Checks).

 

The survey loop

  1. Check out your tour. AWP only creates path inspections for components in the checked-out tour, so do not merge tours.
  2. Record a starting milestone. Find the first component, aim the camera, and record a passing OGI inspection. Because you do not have an open session, Chateau prompts:

"Do you want to start a Milestone Interval?"

  • Tap Yes to record this inspection as a Starting Milestone. The Milestone Interval timer begins.
  • Tap No to record a standard OGI inspection with no session.
  • Walk the route and survey. Move through the area along the Route Sequence (or Tag Number order) with the camera recording, scanning for emissions.
  • Respond to the interval reminder. When your Milestone Interval elapses, the device beeps, vibrates, and displays:

"It has been [X] minutes since the last milestone inspection. Please record another milestone inspection."

   This is your cue to record your next milestone. Also record a milestone before and after every break, including lunch.

  1. Record the ending milestone. When you record the next passing OGI inspection while a session is open, Chateau shows the Path Inspection Confirm prompt:

"Number of path inspections: [N]. Last milestone local time: [time]. Would you like to create path inspections between these two milestones?"

  • Tap Yes — the inspection is saved as the Ending Milestone, and Chateau creates path inspections for the components in between.
  • Tap No — Chateau shows "Milestone Inspection Cancelled," records nothing on that component, and creates no path inspections. Choose another component, or return to the starting component and begin a new session.
  • Open the next session. Recording an ending milestone only ends the current session — it does not automatically start the next one. To keep surveying, record a new Starting Milestone on the next component (Chateau again asks "Do you want to start a Milestone Interval?"). Each session is bracketed by its own starting and ending milestone. Repeat until the end of the day, closing your final session with an ending milestone on the last component you surveyed.
  • Check in at the end of the day to upload your milestones and path inspections.

 

What Chateau records for a path inspection

When you confirm an ending milestone, each path inspection between the two milestones is created automatically with:

  • Result: Pass (no leak)
  • Time: the exact midpoint between the starting and ending milestone times
  • Camera and Technician: copied from the ending milestone
  • GPS: not captured on path inspections

 

When some components can't be surveyed

Sometimes part of an area is temporarily unavailable — blocked, unsafe to approach, or out of service — and you cannot survey those components. To keep them from receiving auto-created (passing) path inspections:

  1. Record an Ending Milestone on the last component you were able to survey. This closes the session and creates path inspections only up to that point.
  2. Walk to the next set of components you can survey.
  3. Open the first surveyable component in the handheld and record a Starting Milestone there to begin a new session.

Because the unavailable components fall in the gap between the ending milestone and the next starting milestone, they are not part of any path — so they receive no path inspection and remain due for inspection.

 

Good to know

  • The interval timer only runs after a Starting milestone — never after an ending milestone — and only while the app is open and a tour is checked out. Checking in, closing the app, or switching the active database stops it.
  • A failing OGI inspection and an OGI Retest do not count as milestones and stop the timer. See Handling Leaks During an AWP Survey.
  • If you switch the active technician mid-survey, the timer resets to the new technician's interval after the next starting milestone.
