A precision calibration is a more rigorous accuracy test than a daily calibration: for each cylinder, the analyzer takes three consecutive readings so its repeatability can be measured. Precision calibrations are usually captured by a SpanBox, but you can enter one by hand in Chateau when a SpanBox was not used, or when you need to record one after the fact.
You set the overall Pass/Fail yourself. There is one exception: if the analyzer has calibration tolerances on file, Chateau evaluates the three readings against them and stores the result it calculates rather than the one you picked. Tolerances reach Chateau by syncing from a SpanBox — there is no screen in Chateau for entering them by hand — so this applies to analyzers that have been used with a SpanBox. How precision pass/fail is computed from the three readings is defined by the Precision Calculation Model on the Settings > Calibration tab, where you can choose Method 1 (the default) or Method 2.
Entering a precision calibration
- Go to Resources > Calibrations > Precision Calibrations.
- Click Add Precision Calibration Record.
- Enter the Time, Analyzer, Technician and Probe Type. These header fields apply to the whole record, so enter one analyzer per record.
- Set the overall Pass/Fail for the record.
- Click Add Cylinder to open the cylinder dialog, then choose a calibration cylinder. If the cylinder does not exist yet, add it first — either through a Daily Calibration in Chateau Mobile, or under Resources > Cylinders using Add.
- In the dialog, enter the times, the response times and the three PPM readings for that cylinder. The response time fills in from the first reading (Test 1); adjust a row if a later reading differs. Click Add Cylinder in the dialog to save that cylinder's test and return to the record.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each cylinder tested on that analyzer.
- Optionally add a Comment, then click Save.
To record precision calibrations for more than one analyzer, add a separate record for each — repeat steps 2 to 8.
Editing a precision calibration
A precision calibration you entered manually can be corrected later: find it in the Precision Calibrations grid, open it, and change the readings or the Pass/Fail result. Calibrations that came from a SpanBox are locked and cannot be edited.
Viewing your precision calibrations
Go to Resources > Calibrations > Precision Calibrations, choose a date range, and click Search. Records are grouped by session, each session heading shows a single Passed or Failed status, and a Source column marks whether each record came from a SpanBox or was entered manually.
