Overview
The Emissions tab lets you calculate estimated emissions from your components over a date range and then view the results as a formatted report. There are two parts to this: first you generate emissions data (Chateau runs the calculation in the background), and then you select a report to view that data on screen.
Generating emissions data is a background job. For large databases it can take a while, so Chateau emails you when the calculation finishes. You don't have to stay on the page while it runs.
Getting to the Emissions tab
- In the left sidebar, click Reports.
- At the top of the Reports page, click the Emissions tab (next to the Reports tab).
The Emissions page has two buttons at the top — Generate New Emissions Data and Export Data — followed by two sections: Select existing emissions data: and Select Report:.
Step 1: Generate emissions data
If the emissions data you need has already been calculated, it will appear in the Select existing emissions data: table and you can skip ahead to Step 2. To calculate new data:
- Click Generate New Emissions Data. The Generate Emissions Data window opens.
- Choose an Emission Model from the dropdown. The model controls how emissions are calculated (which factors, credits, and calculation method are applied). Only models that have already been set up will appear here. If you don't have a model yet, see Setting Up an Emissions Model before generating data.
- Set the Start Date and End Date for the period you want to report on. Each field opens a calendar you can click through by month and year.
- Click Run. (Click Cancel to close without running.)
Important note about running a model
The Generate Emissions Data window warns:
Only one run per Emission Model is supported. Changing the date range for an emission model will result in the previous run being overwritten. Any inspections or changes that occur after you run the emission calculations will not be included.
In plain terms:
- Each Emission Model can hold one set of results at a time. Running the same model again — even with a different date range — overwrites the previous run for that model.
- The calculation is a snapshot. Any inspections or edits made after you run it are not reflected. If new data comes in and you need it included, run the calculation again.
While it runs
After you click Run, the calculation starts in the background. The window notes:
Calculating emissions data can take an extended amount of time. You will receive an email when the calculations are complete.
The run shows up as a row in the Select existing emissions data: table. The Status column tells you where it stands — it reads Done once the calculation has finished successfully. You can leave the page and come back; the email will let you know when it's ready.
Tip: If a run doesn't seem to produce the results you expected, check that you selected the right Emission Model and date range. Also review the Emission Model's settings — the factors, credits, and calculation method it uses determine the output (see Setting Up an Emissions Model). Once you've corrected the model or parameters, run it again (this overwrites the earlier run for that model).
Step 2: View the report
Once your emissions data shows Done in the status column:
- In the Select existing emissions data: table, click the row for the run you want. The selected row highlights. (Each row lists the Emission Model, Start Date, End Date, and Status.)
- Under Select Report:, open the dropdown and choose the report format you want. Options describe how the data is broken out — for example Emissions by Chemical, Emissions By LUnit, and Emissions By Single Component.
- The report loads. You may briefly see Report Processing… before it appears.
Report parameters
Some reports show a Parameter panel on the right where you can narrow what's included before the report finishes rendering — for example selecting specific LUnits and Physical States (such as GV, LL, HL). Use the dropdowns to pick the values you want, and the report updates to match.
Reading the report
The report opens with a Chateau Reporting header and a summary of what it covers — the reporting period, the LUnits included, the Report Model used, and the physical states included — along with the date and time the report was generated. Below that is the emissions data itself, laid out in columns such as LUnit, Tag, Physical State, Type, EPN, FIN, Stream, and the emissions values.
Use the toolbar above the report to move between pages, zoom in and out, refresh, export the report, or print it.
Exporting
There are two ways to get data out, and they do different things:
- Export Data (button at the top of the Emissions tab) exports the raw, component-level emissions data for a completed run — useful for offline analysis in a spreadsheet. Select a completed run first.
- The export button in the report toolbar saves the formatted report you're currently viewing (for example to PDF or Excel).

Things to keep in mind
- One run per model. Re-running a model overwrites its previous results, regardless of the date range.
- Results are a snapshot. Inspections or changes made after you run the calculation aren't included until you run it again.
- Calculations take time. Larger databases can take a while — Chateau emails you when a run is done, so you don't need to wait on the page.
- You must select a completed run (Status = Done) before choosing a report or exporting.
