How to Add Location Units, Plants or Facilities

Chateau enables you to organize the LUnits in your database by assigning them to Plants and then assigning the Plants to a Facility. In this way, you can sort your database in a variety of ways. LUnits are nested in Plants, and Plants can be nested in Facilities.

Alternatively, you can have a very flat structure where all the LUnits are just kept in a single Plant and a single Facility.

• Notes:

  • Adding Site Type values in the Picklists is required prior to using Site Type when Adding a Facility, Plant or LUnit and using it for rule assignment.
     

  • Names for Facilities, Plants, and LUnits are limited to 100 characters.

Time zone is set on the Facility. Plants and LUnits inherit it, which is why the field only appears when you add a Facility.

Adding a Facility, Plant, or LUnit

Click on the Resources tab and select LUnits. Go to step 2 if you want to add a new Facility. Skip to step 3 if you want to add a Plant under an existing Facility. Skip to step 4 if you want to add a LUnit under an existing Plant.

To add a Facility:

1. Select Add.

2. In the right entry field panel, in the Type dropdown, select Facility.

3. Select your time zone.

4. Enter a name of your choice, such as “Entire Facility.”

5. Fill in the description accordingly.

6. Site Type (optional)

7. Contact name (optional)

8. Contact email address (optional)

9. Enter the Date in Service.

10. Click Save when finished.

To add a new Plant:

1. Select Add.

2. In the right entry field panel, in the Type dropdown, select Plant.

3. Select the Parent Facility in the Parent dropdown.

4. Enter a name of your choice, such as “Entire Plant.”

5. Fill in the description accordingly.

6. Site Type (optional)

7. Contact name (optional)

8. Contact email address (optional)

9. Enter the Date in Service.

10. Click Save when finished.

Now add all of your LUnits

1. Select Add.

2. In the right entry field panel, in the Type dropdown, select LUnit.

3. Select the Parent Plant in the Parent dropdown.

4. Enter a name of your choice, such as “LUnit2.”

5. Fill in the description accordingly.

6. Site Type (optional)

7. Contact name (optional)

8. Contact email address (optional)

9. Enter the Date in Service.

10. Click Save when finished.

To Nest a LUnit in a Plant or Facility

Follow the procedure detailed above. You will be able to add more choices at each level and then choose from them as you proceed, essentially building as you go.

Where Site Type Appears

Site Type is set here, on the Facility, Plant or LUnit. It can be added as a column on the LUnit grid, where you can also group by it.

A component takes its Site Type from the Location Unit it currently belongs to, so Site Type is also available as a column on the Components grid, as a field on Component Details, and in the Chateau API. In all of those places it is read only — to change a component's Site Type, change it on the LUnit the component belongs to, or move the component to a different LUnit. On the Components grid it can be searched in the Query Builder and included in an export.
