Improving GPS Performance in Chateau Mobile

Accurate GPS tracking is essential for effective use of Chateau Mobile. The app relies on the handheld device’s Location Services to gather GPS data, and its accuracy depends on signal strength. Follow these best practices to optimize GPS performance.

  1. Ensure Location Services Are Enabled

Chateau Mobile requires Location Services to be turned on for GPS tracking. If Location Services are disabled—either intentionally or accidentally—the app will prevent the technician from proceeding until they are re-enabled.

To check and enable Location Services:
    • Swipe down from the top of the screen.
    • Look for the pin icon (Location Services) and ensure it is turned on.

  1. Establish a Strong GPS Signal Before Starting

At the beginning of the workday, technicians should step outside to an open area where they can see the sky, open Chateau Mobile, and wait until the GPS status displays “Great” before starting inspections. This ensures the device has sufficient time to connect to a strong GPS signal, reducing the likelihood of inaccuracies.

If a technician starts an inspection with a weak GPS they are told the GPS signal is weak before they are allowed to proceed with the inspection. If GPS is critical to your operations, you may want to add to your SOPs the technician should stop, move to an area with a strong GPS signal (open area) to reacquire and then return to the component to perform the inspection.

Technicians can always verify the GPS status at the top of the app before proceeding.

  1. Minimize GPS Interference

Several factors can interfere with GPS performance:

Physical obstructions such as buildings, dense tree cover, or enclosed spaces can weaken signals. If possible, move to an open area to reacquire a strong signal.

Wi-Fi can improve location services on Android devices. Turning on Wi-Fi may enhance GPS accuracy, if your facility has a Wi-Fi network throughout.

By following these recommendations, technicians can improve GPS accuracy in Chateau Mobile and avoid potential tracking issues during inspections.
