Overview
Correctly structuring your component hierarchy is vital. In Chateau, the hierarchy typically flows: Cooling Tower (Parent) → Cooling Tower Sample Point (Inspection Point) → Exchanger (Source).
Many Cooling Towers (actually) have more than on Sample Points. In order to ensure each of these Sample Points is scheduled for the proper inspections, and there is a way to track the inspection results and leaks at each Sample Point, Chateau enables you to identify each Sample Point as the source for the Inspection and then associate one more Sample Point(s) to each Cooling Tower.
Stated another way, Chateau tracks inspection requirements and results on Cooling Tower by means of the inspections and results performed on the Sample Points associated with the Cooling Towers.
Step 1: Unhide Component Types
Before adding components, ensure the specific types are available in your picklists.
- Navigate to Settings > Picklist.
- Select "Component Types" from the Category dropdown.
- Locate and Unhide the following:
- Cooling Tower
- Cooling Tower Sample Point
- Exchanger
Step 2: Configure the Stream
- Go to Resources > Streams.
- Click Add to create a new stream.
- Name: e.g., "Water" or "Cooling Water."
- Detector Type: Select FID.
- Chemical: Select Water (or set as Default). Ensure the composition is set to 100%.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Add the Main Cooling Tower
- Navigate to the Component grid.
- Click Add Component from Scratch.
- Fill in the details:
- Tag Number: e.g., "CT-01."
- LUnit: The Location Unit of the tower.
- Component Type: Select Cooling Tower.
- Stream: Select the stream created in step 2.
- Physical State: Select "NA" (Contact Support if this option is missing).
- Click Save.
Step 4: Add Sample Points and Exchangers
Use the Copy to Add feature to maintain data consistency and speed up data entry.
A. Add the Sample Point
- Open the Tag View of the Cooling Tower created in step 3.
- Click Copy to Add.
- Update the Tag Number (e.g., "CT-01-SP").
- Change Component Type to Cooling Tower Sample Point.
- Click Save.
B. Add the Exchanger
- Open the Tag View of the Sample Point created above.
- Click Copy to Add.
- Update the Tag Number (e.g., "EX-01").
- Change Component Type to Exchanger.
- Click Save.
- Repeat this step for all exchangers associated with this sample point.
Step 5: Link Components (Map Relationships)
You must logically link these components so the system knows which exchangers feed into which sample point.
- Open the Tag View of the Cooling Tower Sample Point.
- Click the Cooling Tower Relationships sub-tab.
- Link the Tower: Click Link Cooling Tower, search for the parent tower (e.g., "CT-01"), select it, and click Link.
- Link the Exchangers: Click Link Exchanger, search for the relevant exchangers (e.g., "EX-01"), select them, and click Link.
