Simplified Tag Numbering in Chateau: No Padded Zeros Required

Chateau is designed to eliminate the need for padded zeros in tag numbers, simplifying your workflow.

In older LDAR databases, users often encountered issues when trying to use letters in tag numbers (e.g., A-10001). These systems were restricted to sorting tag numbers alphabetically, leading to problematic results when dealing with purely numeric tags.

For example, in an alphabetical sort, “11” would incorrectly come before “2,” resulting in an order like this:

Tag #
1
11
2
This is obviously not the desired outcome, so padded zeros were previously required to achieve proper numerical sorting:

Tag #
001
002
011
However, padded zeros added unnecessary complexity and often caused confusion. The physical tag in the field no longer matched the tag number logged in the database. That’s why Chateau was designed to support a more intuitive alphanumeric sorting system. With Chateau, tag numbers are sorted in the logical order you expect, without the need for padded zeros:

Tag #
1
2
11

In short, padded zeros are no longer necessary. Chateau takes care of the sorting for you.
